Starting Point

Bought in 2018

The garden started with an original inherited list of roses. This page is now structured to preserve that baseline and document how the beds changed over time.

Simple zone map

Instead of rebuilding a diagram every year, the garden stays organized by the same two beds: the combined front-and-driveway bed and the patio bed.

Track change by year

Use the timeline to note new roses, removals, moves, and varieties that struggled, while the zone sections below preserve where things were planted.

These labeled beds stay stable from year to year, so the archive can focus on what changed rather than redrawing the whole property.

Zone 1

Front and Driveway Bed

The main continuous bed, combining the front planting area and the driveway edge so inherited roses and later additions can be tracked together.

Zone 2

Patio Bed

A close-to-the-house bed that works well for fragrance favorites, experiments, and roses worth keeping near the seating area.

How To Update

Each year only needs two updates: add a short change-log entry and adjust the rose chips in the relevant bed.

2023 and Beyond

Use yearly notes instead of redrawing the map

For each season after 2022, add a short log entry for roses that were added, moved, removed, or did not perform well. The zone map stays the same; only the notes and rose chips need updating.

Note which roses settled in well, which declined, and whether any bed needed rebalancing for color, height, or health.
