Garden Archive

Garden Layout Through the Years

A simple zone map and year-by-year change log showing how the garden has evolved since buying the house in 2018, without needing a brand-new Visio every season.

Starting Point

Bought in 2018

The garden started with an original inherited list of roses. This page is now structured to preserve that baseline and document how the beds changed over time.

Structure

Simple zone map

Instead of rebuilding a diagram every year, the garden stays organized by the same two beds: the combined front-and-driveway bed and the patio bed.

Best Use

Track change by year

Use the timeline to note new roses, removals, moves, and varieties that struggled, while the zone sections below preserve where things were planted.

Zone Map

Permanent garden zones

These labeled beds stay stable from year to year, so the archive can focus on what changed rather than redrawing the whole property.

Timeline

Garden change log

A year-by-year log for additions, losses, moves, and lessons learned. This gives the history without requiring a new diagram every year.

2018

House purchase and original rose list

This is the baseline year: the house was purchased and the original inherited roses became the starting inventory for everything that followed. The original 2018 rose list is preserved in the photo below.

Original

2023 and Beyond

Use yearly notes instead of redrawing the map

For each season after 2022, add a short log entry for roses that were added, moved, removed, or did not perform well. The zone map stays the same; only the notes and rose chips need updating.

Added Moved Struggled Removed

2023

Record which roses were moved, which new additions earned permanent spots, and what surprised you that season.

2024

Note which roses settled in well, which declined, and whether any bed needed rebalancing for color, height, or health.

2025

Tie newer rose additions and removals to the zone where they landed so the garden history stays easy to follow.

2025 Rose Notes

Roses first documented on the site in 2025

A review of the current rose pages shows two roses whose site photo history starts in 2025. Keeping them grouped here makes it easy to track which additions still need earlier garden-history context.
