Rose Show

A quick overview of the local rose show experience, from selecting blooms to setting up entries and waiting for the results.

Step 1

Week before the show

Each morning, I checked which roses might be at the right stage for Saturday. I built a list of categories, rose names, and colors that looked promising and read up on what to expect.

Step 2

Day-of preparation

I gathered a water bucket and final category list, then had a friend scan the garden one last time to make sure we did not miss any strong entries.

Step 3

At the show

The Seattle Rose Society provided vases. I transferred each rose to the proper judging tag, filled the vases, and placed the entries on the correct table before public voting began.

Step 4

Results

After looking at the other entries and voting myself, I waited for the tally and won the three-stem rose category with Pink Flamingo.
